24 Lessons I’ve Learned in 24 Years

24 Lessons I've Learned in 24 Years

I can’t believe I’ve been alive for 24 years! I still haven’t fully accept that I’m 24 yet lol. Recently, when I’ve been asked my age, I would have to think about it so I don’t say the wrong number!

So, I’m writing this post, as hopefully, a reminder to myself that, I’m in fact, 24. Okay, Dom? Remember that.

Also, I thought it would be fun to write down some of the things I’ve learned since living on my own. A lot of this stuff are things that took getting my ass kicked before it actually stuck with me. I’ve come to learned that that’s the basis of adulting.

Yes, it sucks. BUT, I’ve learned from it and now I’m sharing with you. I’m not saying I’m an expert at it, I’m definitely still at the beginners level but no one fully understands how to beat life anyway, you just enjoy it.

Before you start reading, there’s one thing I didn’t mention on the list but I feel is very important for everyone to know and that is, there is NO one way to live life. Go through life at your own speed and then you’ll find the path you belong. Don’t worry about others expectations of you.

Okay, now you can start 🙂 .

The Things I’ve Learned in 24 Years

  • I know it can sometimes be hard to believe BUT your siblings do become your best friends (most of the time).
  • The day you start your first job, open a savings account and add $10, $15, or even $20 from every paycheck. And if you can, automate the payment, that way you won’t have to worry about remembering!
  • Wash your dishes after your done eating. It makes cleaning so much easier!
  • It’s okay if you don’t know what you want to be when you grow up. You’re not alone. Just experiment in every job field that you can learn from.
  • When you find something that you love, commit 80% of your energy instead of 100%. Then, you won’t be so ran down that you’re not able to focus on your goal. -Takasan from Terrace House
  • Learn to cook simple meals so you can save money on eating out.
  • Bring water with you everywhere so you don’t have to spend money on sodas at restaurants.
  • Be nice to your car. Give thanks to it everyday for taking you where you need to go. Also, give it oil changes when it’s due.
  • Travel as much as you can even if it’s just a road trip to the next state. It will help inspire you.
  • Travel internationally and experience a totally different culture. It will humble you and help you appreciate life.
  • If something is bothering you, speak up about it. Otherwise, nothing will ever be resolved.
  • If you fail, that’s okay. Just get your ass back up and try a different tactic. You’ll get there.
  • Allow yourself to fall in love at least once in your lifetime. It will teach you the kind of person you are and what you want to receive from that person.
  • NEVER search for love. It will find you. Just enjoy your life and things will fall into place 🙂 . <——– This actually works! Just try it.
  • DO something everyday that makes you happy – large fries from Mickey D’s, my favorite 😉 .
  • Every paycheck, withdraw $50 cash. Use that money instead of your debit/ credit card. If you can physically see what you have, then you won’t spend as much.
  • You’re only going to meet a handful of true friends but when you do find them, be sure to keep them close.
  • Tell those people that are important to you how you feel about them (ESPECIALLY your crush). You’ll never know how things could end up.
  • Don’t hold on to things so hard. Yes, that guy/ girl may have stopped talking to you, but don’t beat yourself up about it. I used to do this a lot in my teenage years and really it’s just wasted energy that’s not worth dwelling on. You’re gonna end up missing out on life and a guy/ girl is NOT worth that.
  • Focus on your financial state of being first and relationships second. This sounds like it should be obvious but when you’re in a new and happy relationship, all logic can go out the window.
  • Reduce your expectations for things to about 75%. Too high of expectations leads to disappointment. <—– Still working on this!
  • Stop overthinking!! The moment it happens cut it off immediately. <—- Also, still working on this too lol.
  • Don’t take life too seriously. We only get one to live (that we know of) so enjoy all the good that comes your way! Laugh a lot! Fall in and out of love but then get back on your feet. Even if you don’t have a lot of money, make a way to travel to your dream destination. Take chances that scare you to death because at the very end of it all, the one thing you’ll always regret, is not trying.
  • What’s the one thing you’ve learned in your lifetime?
