8 Ways To Unwind When You Are Feeling Overwhelmed

8 Ways To Unwind When You're Feeling Overwhelmed

Guys, the holidays are right around the corner. How insane is that!

I feel like 2017 flew by so fast and all I did was blink. And now 2018 will be here in two months. Is there a way we could just slow it down a little this time because I still want to enjoy all of the good food that is about to be made. YUM.

But with the holidays comes stress which can be quite overwhelming. There’s the food that needs to be made, the decorating, the gift giving, and the family gathering (No worries I still love you mom).

Stress has always been a very frustrating feeling to me. If we looked at the bigger picture for the most part there usually isn’t a need to be stressed because things have a way of working out.

Sadly, we feel that there are expectations that we “need” to fulfill and that can bring on a kind of stress that can linger and bring a kind of negativity to our lives that isn’t needed.

I have a way of stressing myself out or overwhelm myself more than anything. I like to over think things which is constantly always keeping my mind busy. It tends to make me restless and I get trapped in my thoughts.

So I tend to isolate myself from everyone and try to bring back some kind of peace to my soul.  I don’t isolate myself in a negative way though! No worries on that. I like to think of it as rejuvenating my soul.

While I’m isolated there are a few things that I like to do to bring back my happiness and reassure me that everything is going to be okay. I hope some of these are able to help you too whether it’s during the holidays or just in everyday life 🙂 .

1. Take a bubble bath or an Epsom Salt bath

This is my favorite thing to do when I’m feeling down. I usually sit in the bubble bath or Epsom salt bath for about an hour sometimes longer depending on how the water feels. I like my bath hot and steamy (Just how I like my chicken wings). Then, I’ll throw on my headphones, close my eyes, and just listen to the music. It helps to keep me from over-thinking and adding on more stress.

2. Drink calming tea

I’ve recently been drinking this chamomile tea by TAZO right before I go to sleep. I’ll drink it while watching TV or while reading a book. I’ll admit that it’s not my favorite tasting tea but it has a comforting scent to it. So if you just want to smell the tea instead of drinking it well, by all means do what you got to do, girl.

3. Reading a Book

I’m such a bookworm! I love getting lost in a beautiful story. I’m not currently reading anything at the moment but I love fictional books the most. I love getting lost in a different world and away from reality for a little bit. I’ll be sure to tell you guys which book I’ll be reading next and if it’s worth the read!

4. Work on a puzzle

Not many know this about me but I LOVE puzzles. And I’m talking about the 100 pieces kind where you spend a few days working on it. I’ve always found them oddly comforting and it helps to take me away from my thoughts for a little bit. I use the Jigsaw Puzzle App on my phone for the most part if I don’t have access to a physical puzzle. The best feeling though is when I’m finally finished. It’s a very self-satisfying feeling when the puzzle is finally done and it gives me a bit of confidence.

5. Wear a face mask

I like to wear it usually when I take a bath depending on which face mask I wear. I really love the Biore One Minute Charcoal Face Mask. It goes on heated and it feels like tingling goodness all over – it’s amazing. I like to wear this one after I brush my teeth just cause it doesn’t stay on long. When I take a bath I use the Freeman Mint and Lemon Facial Clay Mask. This one isn’t heated but it does harden after a few minutes. It can be a bit stubborn trying to take off all of the mask but it DOES come off!

6. Dance!

I tend to do this all over the house. I wish I had a Walkman so I can put some legwarmers on and strut the streets in style. But for now, I’ll just use my phone and dance in the house while I do house chores. If you don’t want to dance throughout the house just yet well, darling, locking yourself in the bathroom has the same affect (it’s no one’s business what you’re doing in there 😉 ).

7. Exercise / Yoga /Meditate

On the weekends I like to do these in the mornings after I’ve eaten breakfast but during the week I like doing these in the evenings before I shower. It’s a good way to help clear the mind and relieve tension from the body. It’s also good way to begin the day or end the day depending on which one you prefer as it brings such positive energy to your mind and soul.

8. Paint nails

It never hurts to pamper yourself and give yourself some TLC. It also boosts my self-esteem and makes me feel unstoppable. Which, in turn, will be able to help you tackle whatever stress you had. I’m currently loving the Sally Hansen Nail polish in Heavy Metal that is also featured in my 10 Fall Must Haves of 2017 blog post.

I hope you guys found some of these helpful and I would love to know what you guys do to relieve your stress?

I love all of your beautiful souls and I’ll be seeing you soon.
